About The Dister Family of Gundersheim
Please sign in to see more.
This is a family tree principally of those members of the Diester or Dister family in Gundersheim, Rheinhessen, Germany, who immigrated to Cleveland, Ohio c. 1850 and elsewhere in Ohio around the same time. This tree is currently in process of development and there are many more names and events yet to be entered.

The research for the website and the website itself are the work of my uncle, Rev. John E. Dister, SJ (Uncle Jack). In July 2014, Uncle Jack turned over to me the responsibility for maintaining and continuing to develop the website.

In June, 2009 many more names were added to this family tree thanks to the extensive genealogical efforts over many years by Uncle Jack's first cousin, Frances Dister Ilg, and the help of her daughter, Ceci Ilg McKay. Ceci was of great assistance in merging the data on most of the grandchildren and the descendants of Uncle Jack's grandparents (my great grandparents), Edward J. Dister and Elizabeth Nunn, to this site. Therefore, if not listed otherwise, the source for all the data on these descendants is Frances Dister Ilg even when not so cited.

This site will also be used to publish through its "stories" and "notes", as well as the family tree data, newly discovered information. A revised and updated version of Uncle Jack's "From Gundersheim to Cleveland and Beyond: a Brief History of Part of the Dister Family" a monograph first published privately in Cleveland, Ohio in 1986 and available through the Western Reserve Historical Society there is now available here. The revised and updated version of this history (July 16th, 2014) as well as other newly discovered information can be found in "Stories" under the "People" menu above.

If you are a visitor to this site, please consider signing the guestbook and indicating your interest in or relationship to the Dister family. If you wish, enclose your email address. Inquires and corrections offered by members of the Dister family are most welcome. Please contact the Administrator.
